Have you tried a similar type lock-up (as the poster on the left) but with the new overlapping direction? The mix of upper/lower case and more leading are more readable than the later version you showed me in class.
You can play with contrast between his name and quintet.
As you mentioned, you want the focus on the image. Really work on REFINING the line and curve quality of that shape.
